The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the General Duty Examination every year at the national level. The SSC GD exam is one of the most popular competitive exams in India, offering opportunities for recruitment to Group C non-technical posts such as Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), and Data Entry Operator (DEO) in various Ministries, Departments, and Government Offices across the country.
SSC GD Age Limit
For the SSC GD Constable Exam (as of 1st January 2026) , the prescribed age criteria are:
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Maximum Age: 23 years
This means candidates must be at least 18 years old and not more than 23 years old on 01.01.2026.
Age Relaxation
Candidates belonging to reserved categories (SC, ST, OBC, etc) are eligible for age relaxation. Refer to the table below for more details about it

Weight Requirements
For both males and females, weight should be proportionate to height and as per medical standards.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Requirements
Candidates who qualify in PST will be required to undergo the Physical Efficiency Test (PET):

Rules for Female Candidates
Women need to give a declaration about whether they are pregnant before the physical test.
- If not pregnant, they can take the test as usual.
- If pregnant, they won’t be allowed to take the test at that time and will be marked temporarily unfit.
- After giving birth and completing at least 6 weeks of rest, they can reappear for the test by showing a medical fitness certificate. Once they pass, they will get the post reserved for them, and their seniority will remain safe.

Vision Requirements
- Visual correction (glasses, contact lenses, etc.) is not permitted
- Color vision: CP-2 standard
- Near vision: Better eye – N6, Worse eye – N9
- Distant vision: Better eye – 6/6, Worse eye – 6/9
Number of Attempts for SSC GD Constable
There is no limit on the number of attempts for the SSC GD Constable exam. As long as you meet the SSC GD qualification eligibility criteria, you can appear for the exam any number of times.
